Honourable Wasilat Adegoke, Commissioner for Youth and Sports in Oyo State, represented Governor Seyi Makinde at the swearing-in ceremony of the 2024 Batch ‘C’ (Stream 2) corps members, where she delivered a keynote address at the Permanent Orientation Camp, Ogbakuta, Iseyin on Friday, January 24, 2025

In the address, Governor Makinde welcomed the corps members to Oyo State, known as the “Pacesetter” State, and congratulated them on completing their academic programs. He emphasized the importance of serving their fatherland with hard work, discipline, and a commitment to national development.

Governor Makinde highlighted the significance of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in addressing national challenges, promoting unity and integration, and driving socio-economic development. He noted that the NYSC has remained a successful national program for over 51 years, distinguishing itself as a worthy legacy.

During the orientation course, the corps members were engaged in various activities designed to prepare them for the tasks and challenges of the service year. Governor Makinde emphasized the importance of the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) Programme in mitigating unemployment among Nigerian graduates.
The governor urged the corps members to cultivate healthy relationships with their colleagues and host communities, embracing the ideals of unity, discipline, and patriotism. He reminded them that loyalty to their nation is non-negotiable and encouraged them to channel their knowledge, talents, and gifts to position Nigeria positively among the global community.
Governor Makinde commended the Federal Government for approving the new minimum wage for corps members and assured them that Oyo State would continue to prioritize their welfare. He declared the 2024 Batch ‘C’ (Stream 2) Orientation course open and thanked the NYSC management, collaborating agencies, traditional rulers, and stakeholders for their support.
Distinguished guests who attended the event include Hon. Justice Iyabo Yerima, the Chief Judge of Oyo State, Aseyin of Iseyin, a prominent traditional rulerOba Sefiu Olawale Oyebola Adeyeri III, and Hon. Rasaq Faniran, the Chairman of Iseyin Local Government. Also in attendance were Bisi, the Oyo State NYSC Coordinator, and Com Abel Odoba Oche, representing the NYSC
