The Polytechnic, Ibadan is to commence a partnership programme with the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) high command in the training of Air Force Personnel with a view to ensure their certification.

This came to fore during a visit by the representatives of the Nigerian Air Force Institute of Administrative Management(NAFIAM) by Wing Commander Adesola Adeyanju to the Management of the institution

Wing Commander Adesola Adeyanju, who said his visit was in the directive of the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar and Air Vice Marshal Mohamed Yussuf who is the Chief of the NAFIAM.

Wing Commander Adeyanju conveyed the goodwill of the Chief of Air Staff and stated that the visit followed directives from the top command to initiate a formal collaboration with The Polytechnic, Ibadan.
He explained that NAFIAM, established in 2014, currently oversees six specialized schools in Public Relations, Music, Physical Education, Catering, Leadership, and Public Administration.
He noted that while NAFIAM currently awards in-house certificates for its Basic (6 months), Intermediate (3 months), and Advanced (3 months) programmes, these certificates according to him are only recognized internally by Nigerian Airforce. He expressed the desire to upgrade the institute’s certification through a formal partnership with The Polytechnic, Ibadan, so that it can be nationally recognized.
Wing Commander Adeyanju noted that the request from the Navy institute is to enable the Naval personnel obtain The Polytechnic, Ibadan National Diploma certificate through the open distance flexible e-learning programmes of the institution pointing out that hopefully the institution will be able to take into cognisance the nature of the professional duties of the officers concerned.
In his response, the Acting Rector of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Dr. Taiwo Abideen Lasisi, appreciated the Nigerian Air Force for choosing the institution as potential academic partner.
He described the proposal as one that would enhance the credibility and reach of The Polytechnic. He noted that the institution’s online learning framework could serve as a flexible mode of delivery to suit the needs of NAF personnel and consequently requested that both parties should draft a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for joint review.
Also speaking , the Acting Registrar, Mr. Joseph Adewumi Ogunjimi, emphasized the need to align the proposed partnership with the guidelines of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), adding that although full affiliation might not be possible, The Polytechnic could explore acceptable academic structures for collaboration.
The Director of Open Distance Flexible E-learning of the institution, Dr. Florence Babalola, recommended setting up a technical team to evaluate the feasibility of the programmes and ensure regulatory compliance.
The joint session between the Polytechnic and the NAF representatives ended on a promising note, with both parties expressing optimism about the prospects of the collaboration in raising the standard of education and training for military personnel.
