There was jubilation among residents and road users in the Olodo area as Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde FNSE, fulfilled his promise by opening and commissioning the newly constructed 2-span 20×20 meter bridge.
Representing the Governor at the commissioning ceremony was the Deputy Governor, Barrister Bayo Lawal, who led a delegation of commissioners and top government officials to Olodo community. In his remarks, Lawal highlighted the bridge as a symbol of the Makinde administration’s commitment to sustainable development and modern infrastructure, emphasizing its importance in providing safe and accessible transportation to neighboring states.
Chairman of Egbeda Local Government, Hon. Sanda Sikiru, recounted the devastation caused by the collapse of the previous bridge after heavy rainfall and flooding on July 3, 2023. He noted the hardship residents endured and praised the Governor’s swift response to their outcry through the local government.
Hon. Sanda expressed heartfelt appreciation to Governor Makinde for prioritizing the welfare of the people and for responding without delay. “Without prompt intervention, the situation could have escalated into a tragedy. But the Governor, true to his compassionate leadership style, answered our call without hesitation,” he stated.
He further noted the strategic importance of the Olodo bridge, which not only serves local communities but also connects to other states, enhancing regional connectivity and economic development. “This project is a game-changer for our community. It will spur economic activity and improve the quality of life for all residents,” Hon. Sanda said.
The Chairman also extended gratitude to the engineers, contractors, Egbeda local government team, and all stakeholders whose dedication and resilience brought the project to fruition.
