

The Egbeda Market football team emerged champions of the 2025 Olubadan Olakulehin Cup, defeating Araromi Gate Market 1–0 in a tightly contested final at the Olubadan Stadium, Ibadan.
The winning goal, scored in the 38th minute of the first half by Oribayo Oluseye Matthew, proved decisive as Egbeda Market held firm to secure the coveted trophy and a prize sum of ₦500,000.

In a show of appreciation for his support before, during, and after the tournament, the jubilant team decorated the Executive Chairman of Egbeda Local Government, Hon. Sanda Sikiru Oyedele, with a victory medal.

The grassroots competition featured 17 registered teams drawn from markets across Ibadan metropolis, grouped into four clusters, and was open to all age brackets.
The grand finale attracted a large turnout of fans and notable dignitaries, including Prince Folaseke Olakulehin, Babaloja General of Oyo State Alhaji Yekini Abass, Iyaloja General of Ibadanland Chief Mrs. Oguntola Iswat Amerongen, Comrade Niyi Alebiosu, members of the Oyo State Football Association, and several market leaders.
“You have inspired Egbeda Local Government and represented us well,” Hon. Sanda told the players amid cheers. “Your victory is more than a sporting achievement; it is a triumph of courage, determination, discipline, and consistency.”
The coach of the Egbeda Market team expressed gratitude for the chairman’s unwavering support and encouragement. Also present at the reception were the Vice Chairman of Egbeda LGA Hon. Ibrahim Oladebo Simple, Secretary to the Local Government Hon. Temitope Aworele, Chief of Staff Alhaji Siyanbola Adisa, Chief Dr. Alaga Ayo Monsurat, Alhaji Babatunde Ganiyu, Supervisor for Youths and Sports Hon. Adio Babatunde Qozeem, and Mrs. Falana.
