Egbeda Local Government Chairman, Hon. Sikiru Oyedele Sanda, has lauded the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) for bringing free medical services to residents of the council area through its Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD) programme.

The Chairman, who was represented by the Head of Local Government Administration, Chief (Dr.) Alaga Ayo Monsurat, welcomed the NYSC medical team and participants to the outreach. He described the initiative as timely and impactful, noting that it complements the health sector reforms of Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration in Oyo State.

Hon. Sanda urged residents to take full advantage of the opportunity, stressing that the programme was designed to deliver quality healthcare directly to the grassroots.

The outreach witnessed a large turnout of residents who received a variety of services, including medical consultations, laboratory tests, and free medications.

Speaking on behalf of the NYSC, Egbeda Local Government Inspector, Mrs. Yewande Williams, explained that the HIRD programme remains a key intervention of the scheme aimed at improving healthcare access in underserved communities. She added that the initiative is held quarterly across the country, deploying qualified corps medical personnel to rural areas.

Many beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the gesture, describing the programme as a lifeline that has eased their access to healthcare at no cost.
