A Nigerian man has stirred massive reactions on social media after making a bold and emotional appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging the government to “sell Nigeria” to another country if it can no longer manage its affairs.
The man’s outburst, shared on X (formerly Twitter) by user @oyindamola, captured the frustration of millions of Nigerians struggling to cope with the rising cost of living particularly the recent hike in cooking gas prices.

“Even 1kg of Gas Is Now ₦2,000”

In the viral post, the man lamented how basic household expenses have become unbearable for ordinary citizens.
“Even 1kg of gas is now ₦2,000,” he said. “I beg you in the name of God, if you can’t control Nigeria again, please sell it to China or Ghana so we can be under another country. You just want to turn the country into something else, and we the poor are the ones suffering.”
His statement, though exaggerated, reflects a deep sense of hopelessness among citizens facing relentless economic hardship.
“Settle Your Problem With Dangote”
The man went further to accuse the government of being disconnected from the reality on the ground, saying politicians continue to live in comfort while the poor bear the brunt of the crisis.
He also referenced the alleged dispute between the federal government and billionaire industrialist Aliko Dangote, suggesting that the disagreement has worsened the gas price situation.
“Because there is an issue between you and Dangote, you decided to increase the price of gas. If you can’t control the country, please sell it to Gobe, I beg you. Settle your problem with Dangote because it’s affecting us,” he added.
What Triggered the Gas Price Surge
Cooking gas prices across Nigeria have soared sharply in recent days, with 1kg selling for as high as ₦2,000 in some areas. The hike followed supply disruptions linked to a brief strike by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), which caused delays in gas loading and transportation.
Although the strike has since been called off, marketers have continued to raise prices, citing scarcity, high transport costs, and foreign exchange pressures.
Nigerians React: “He Only Said What Many Are Thinking”
The man’s outcry resonated deeply online, sparking mixed reactions from Nigerians. While some criticized his remark about “selling the country,” many agreed that his anger reflects the everyday struggles of citizens battling inflation, unemployment, and shrinking purchasing power.
One user commented, “He only said what many are thinking. Things are too hard even cooking gas has become a luxury.”
Another added, “It’s funny but true. Every week, something new gets more expensive. We’re tired.”
A Cry Born from Frustration
Though the man’s plea was dramatic, it underscores the growing despair across the country as prices of essential commodities continue to climb. For many Nigerians, what used to be a basic necessity like cooking gas now feels like a luxury, and their patience is wearing thin.
