Oyo Fire Service Contain Molete Blaze Sparked by Electrical Cooker — No Casualty Recorded
A swift response from the Oyo State Fire Service on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, averted what could have been a major tragedy after a fire broke out at a residential building located at Omoleye Street, Molete, Ibadan.

The incident, reported at exactly 9:50 a.m. through a telephone call from Mr. Raji Azeez, was promptly attended to by firemen led by Chief Fire Superintendent (CFS) Olayiwola.

Upon arrival, the officers discovered that the private residence was already engulfed in flames. The team quickly swung into action, successfully containing the fire and preventing it from spreading to adjoining structures. Although the building was severely damaged, no casualties were recorded.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the fire resulted from an electrical cooker left plugged in unattended, which ignited nearby combustible materials and set the building ablaze.
Following the incident, fire prevention officers delivered a brief public safety lecture, urging residents to remain vigilant and safety-conscious at all times.
The Special Adviser on Fire Reform and Chairman, Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Hon. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande, also cautioned the public on the improper handling of electrical appliances. He emphasized the importance of having functional fire extinguishers in every home to curb minor outbreaks before they escalate.
Residents are encouraged to report fire incidents promptly by contacting the agency’s emergency lines on 08067439223, 08054353501, or 615.
The firefighting team returned to base at 3:31 p.m. and is currently on operational standby.
