Quick intervention by the Oyo State Fire Services Agency prevented what could have been a devastating fire outbreak at Essential Stores, Bibilari Junction, opposite SAO Filling Station along Bashorun–Idi Ape Road, Ibadan.
The incident, which occurred around 6:24 a.m. on Sunday, was reported through a telephone call by one Pastor Esan. Firefighters were immediately mobilized to the scene and discovered one of twelve adjoining shops engulfed in flames.

According to the agency, firemen promptly swung into action and successfully curtailed the fire from spreading to other shops and nearby properties. Only one shop was slightly affected before the fire was completely extinguished.

No casualty was recorded in the incident. Preliminary investigation revealed that the fire resulted from electrical sparks from an appliance left unplugged after the shop had closed.
The Officer in Charge at the scene advised traders and shop owners to always switch off electrical appliances when not in use to prevent similar occurrences.
Meanwhile, the Special Adviser on Fire Reform and Chairman, Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Hon. Dr. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande, urged members of the public to be more conscious of fire safety. He emphasized the importance of installing fire extinguishers in shops and buildings to contain fires at the early stage.
The fire truck returned to the station by 7:46 a.m. and was placed on operational standby.
Residents are reminded to report fire incidents promptly and provide accurate addresses by contacting the emergency lines: 08067439223, 08054353501, or dial 615 (Toll-Free).
