Fire Guts Shops In Oke Elerin, Ogbomoso ~ Oyo Fire Service Contain Blaze, No Casualties Recorded

The Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Ogbomoso Zone, on Friday, swiftly responded to a fire outbreak that occurred at Oke Elerin area of Ogbomoso, preventing what could have been a major disaster.

According to the agency, a distress call was received at exactly 04:40 hours from a passerby, Mr. Fatai, reporting that shops within an ancient residential building were engulfed in flames.

Upon arrival at the scene, fire personnel led by Chief Fire Superintendent (CFS) Mrs. Dairo Rasheedat discovered six rooms and three shops already alight. The firefighters promptly swung into action, successfully curtailing the blaze and preventing it from spreading to nearby buildings and properties.

While no lives were lost, the agency confirmed that properties worth millions of naira were saved during the operation.

In a statement, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Fire Services Reform and Chairman, Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Hon. Dr. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande, urged traders across the state to be safety-conscious and to acquire basic fire-fighting knowledge. He emphasized the need for every shop owner to possess and learn the proper use of fire extinguishers to tackle small fires before they escalate.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined as post-incident investigations are ongoing.

The operation was concluded successfully, with the fire truck returning to base by 06:42 hours and placed on standby for future emergencies.
