Swift intervention by officers of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Oyo Zonal Command, prevented a transformer fire from escalating into a major disaster at Sabo Area, beside Isale Oyo Microfinance Bank, Oyo Town.
The incident, which occurred at about 6:19 p.m. on Friday, was reported through a telephone call by Mr. Oyerogba, who alerted the agency about an IBEDC sub-distribution transformer that had caught fire.

Upon receiving the distress call, firemen led by PFS II Makinde were immediately dispatched to the scene. The team promptly extinguished the flames, preventing the fire from spreading to nearby electrical installations within the substation.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the fire was caused by an electrical spark from IBEDC cables, which ignited the transformer.
There were no casualties, and the joint effort of the Oyo State Fire Service and the Federal Fire Service (Oyo Command) ensured that properties worth millions of naira were saved from destruction.
In his reaction, the Special Adviser on Fire Reform and Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Hon. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande, commended the quick response of the fire officers. He urged residents to remain vigilant and to install fire extinguishers in their homes and workplaces to curb fire outbreaks before they escalate.
The operation was concluded at 6:58 p.m., after which the firefighting appliances returned to the station on standby.
The agency further reminded the public to report any fire incidents promptly and accurately using the emergency numbers 08067439223, 08054353501, or 615 (toll-free).
