In what observers describe as a major political realignment ahead of future elections in Oyo State, the Atiba Local Government chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), on Sunday, received scores of defectors from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Accord Party, all loyal to Engineer Faozey.
The Local Government PDP Chairman, Hon. Ayinde Isiaka Adejare, and the State Secretary of the Party, Hon. Oyelami Oyeyemi Joel, officially received the new members during the party’s well-attended weekly general meeting held at L.A. Primary School, Sabo, Oyo.
The atmosphere was electric as members of the Hon. Nurudeen Faozey Movement, one of the largest and most influential political pressure groups in Oyo State, publicly declared their allegiance to the ruling PDP.
Speaking at the event, the Director General of the Faozey Movement, Hon. Alhaji Alebiosu, said their decision to defect followed deep consultation and reflection on the political trajectory of the State. He noted that aligning with the visionary leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde was a strategic move to strengthen development and consolidate the gains of good governance.
“With the massive infrastructure development and people-oriented policies being implemented across Oyo State, there’s no doubt that the PDP under Governor Makinde is the party with a clear direction for progress,” Alebiosu declared to thunderous applause.
Also speaking, Hon. Adeniran Joel, one of the leaders of the defectors, commended Governor Makinde’s leadership style and assured full commitment of the new members to the ruling party’s ideals.
“We are here to contribute to the ongoing transformation of Oyo State. The Governor’s inclusive leadership has shown that the PDP remains a home for all progressive minds,” he said.
Addressing the crowd, the State Secretary of the Party, Hon. Oyelami Oyeyemi Joel, welcomed the defectors warmly, assuring them of equal rights and privileges within the PDP family.
“From today, you are full members of our great party. The PDP belongs to you as much as it belongs to us. Let us work together to move Atiba Local Government, Oyo State, and indeed Nigeria, forward,” he affirmed.
In their goodwill messages, the Acting BOT Chairman, Alhaji Quadri Olatunji, and his Vice, Alhaji Sulaiman Akinola Ajepe, urged both old and new members to rally behind the ongoing reforms of Governor Makinde’s administration, emphasizing that Oyo State continues to reap the dividends of purposeful governance under the PDP.
In his welcome address, Hon. Ayinde Isiaka Adejare, the PDP Chairman in Atiba, described the defection as a major boost to the party’s grassroots strength and dominance across the State.
“This development has further solidified the PDP’s position as the most formidable political force in Atiba and Oyo State at large. Our doors remain open to all progressives who believe in development, unity, and the vision of Governor Seyi Makinde,” Adejare said.
He assured the new entrants of equal opportunities and encouraged them to participate actively in party activities, stressing the importance of unity, discipline, and full integration for collective success.
“We are one big family in the PDP. Let us continue to work together to deliver a stronger, more prosperous, and inclusive Oyo State,” the Chairman concluded.
The event, described by political watchers as a “strategic realignment of forces,” marks another milestone in the consolidation of PDP’s dominance in Atiba Local Government and across Oyo State’s political landscape.
