In a groundbreaking development, Oyo State’s newly formed women’s football team, Pacesetter Queens, has secured a spot in the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership for the 2025/26 season. This achievement marks a significant milestone in the state’s football development.

According to reliable sources, Pacesetter Queens has successfully acquired Benue Queens’ slot, paving the way for their promotion to the top-flight league. The Oyo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Alhaja Wasilat Adefemi Adegoke, confirmed that the team will feature in the elite division next season.

Established just four months ago under the Oyo State Ministry of Youth and Sports, Pacesetter Queens will now serve as the official women’s team of Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC). This strategic move positions 3SC to meet the Confederation of African Football (CAF) club licensing requirements, which mandate that clubs aiming for continental participation must have a women’s team competing in recognized competitions.

With Pacesetter Queens’ confirmation, the South West region now boasts the highest representation in the NWFL Premiership with seven teams. The region’s dominance in women’s football is evident, with a growing commitment to investment and development in the sport.

The new NWFL season’s kickoff date and fixtures are expected to be announced at the league’s Annual General Assembly (AGA) in Port Harcourt on October 29, 2025.
