Oyo Fire Service, Federal Team Quell Kuola Duplex Fire Cause By Negligence With Mosquito Coil

Officers of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency on Friday evening, swiftly responded to a fire outbreak at Hazmat Street, Kuola, off Akala Expressway, Ibadan.

The distress call, received at exactly 6:50 p.m. from one Mr. Abegunde, reported that a residential duplex was engulfed in flames.

According to the Agency’s report, a team of firefighters led by Chief Fire Superintendent (CFS) Mrs. Adedeji promptly mobilized to the scene. On arrival, the upper floor of a duplex building and an adjoining two-bedroom flat were already ablaze.

The firefighters immediately launched their operations, successfully containing the inferno and preventing it from spreading to the ground floor and surrounding structures. The operation was conducted in collaboration with crews from the Federal Fire Service and Sweetco Fire Service, while officers from the Kuola Police Division provided security support throughout the operation.

No casualties were recorded in the incident. Preliminary investigation revealed that the fire was caused by a lighted mosquito coil left unattended, which ignited nearby combustible materials.

The Special Adviser on Fire Reform and Chairman, Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Hon. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande, commended the quick response of the firefighters and urged residents to remain vigilant. He also emphasized the importance of installing fire extinguishers in every household to help curb minor fires before they escalate.

The firefighting team returned to base by 9:23 p.m., with all appliances on standby for further emergencies.
