The Oyo State Fire Services Agency on Monday swiftly responded to a fire outbreak that occurred at Ayetoto Market along Egbeda–Atuba Road in Ibadan. The incident was reported at exactly 3:30 p.m. on November 17, 2025, by a caller, Mr. Mufutau Ishola, who alerted the agency to multiple shops engulfed in flames.

A team of firefighters led by Chief Fire Superintendent (CFS) Mrs. Adekola was immediately deployed to the scene. On arrival, the crew found five out of nine adjoining shops already consumed by the blaze. The officers promptly commenced firefighting operations, successfully containing the fire and preventing it from extending to nearby structures and properties.

No casualties were recorded.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the fire was triggered by an electrical spark from an inverter installed in one of the shops, which subsequently ignited nearby combustible materials.

The Special Adviser on Fire Reform and Chairman of the Fire Services Agency, Hon. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande, urged residents and business owners to prioritize fire safety. He emphasized the need for every shop and household to install fire extinguishers to reduce the spread of fire during emergencies.

The responding fire appliance returned to the station at 6:03 p.m. and was placed on standby for further operations.

The agency advised the public to promptly report fire incidents and ensure accurate address details when calling emergency lines: 08067439223, 08054353501, or 615.
