Egbeda Local Government, in collaboration with UNICEF and SATO (a brand under LIXIL), on Wednesday joined the global community to commemorate the 2025 World Toilet Day with a major sanitation awareness campaign held at I.D.C. Basic School, Olubadan.

Flagging off the event, the Executive Chairman of Egbeda Local Government, Hon. Sanda Sikiru, underscored the critical role of sanitation in public health, aligning his message with this year’s theme, “We’ll Always Need the Toilet.”

“In a rapidly changing world, one truth remains constant: we will always depend on the toilet,” he said. “Safe and proper sanitation is essential to protecting communities by managing human waste and preventing the spread of infectious diseases. Without adequate sanitation, germs contaminate our water, food, and environment, putting everyone at risk. I urge the public to keep their toilets clean and maintain good hygiene practices so we can reduce the burden of infections and build a healthier society.”

The Director of Environmental Health Services, Sanitarian Baale Victoria Adekunbi, also sensitized residents on the theme, stressing that proper toilet use remains a frontline defense against disease outbreaks. She noted that clean toilets play a vital role in preventing environmental contamination, urging households to prioritize hygiene. Adekunbi commended Hon. Sanda Sikiru for his continuous commitment to public health initiatives in the local government.

The event featured an awareness walk and interactions with pupils of I.D.C. Basic School, who enthusiastically received the council chairman and showcased exercise books donated to all primary schools across Egbeda Local Government.

Among the dignitaries who participated in the campaign were the Leader of Egbeda Legislative Arm, Hon. Olakanmi Olusola; PCRC Chairman, Alh. Abiodun Bello; Baale Afijagba, Chief Alade Lateef; councilors, supervisory councilors, directors, and the Headmaster of IDC Special School.

As the activities concluded, officials reiterated the core message of the global observance: the best cure begins with prevention — and we will always need the toilet.
