The Oyo State Fire Services Agency, on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, successfully responded to two separate fire emergencies in Oyo and Ibadan, rescuing victims and preventing extensive property loss.
The first incident occurred at about 06:21hrs along the Oyo–Ogbomosho Expressway, directly in front of the Emmanuel Alayande University of Education. A distress call placed by Mr. Funmilayo reported a trailer engulfed in flames following a collision. Officers led by PFS II Makinde were immediately deployed to the scene.

On arrival, officials discovered that an 18-passenger Mazda bus with registration number GWL 687 XB (Kano) had rammed into a stationary Howo trailer, LSR 340 XW (Lagos), which had reportedly been abandoned on the highway for three days due to mechanical faults. The impact triggered a fire that engulfed the trailer.

Firefighters swiftly conducted rescue operations and extinguished the blaze. Sixteen persons were recovered, while three survivors were evacuated to hospital by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC). Preliminary findings linked the crash to overspeeding and the hazardous practice of parking heavy-duty vehicles on highways.
The SA on Fire Reform and Chairman, Oyo State Fire Services Agency, cautioned motorists to adhere to road safety guidelines, especially during the ember months, and condemned the careless parking of trailers on major roads. Policemen from the Atiba Division and CFS Adeduntan were present to provide security support. The fire appliance returned to station at 07:38hrs.
Later the same day, at 19:49hrs, another emergency call was received concerning a house fire at No. 39, Alarape Compound, opposite the New Olubadan Palace, Oke Aremo, Yemetu, Ibadan. The call was made by Mr. Obisesan Muideen.
A team led by ACFS Oyeniyi mobilized promptly, arriving to find the upper floor of an ancient residential building fully ablaze. Firefighters launched an immediate coordinated attack, preventing the inferno from spreading to adjoining sections of the structure. The operation was carried out in collaboration with the Federal Fire Service, Ibadan Command, resulting in the preservation of property worth millions of naira.
There were no casualties, and investigations revealed that the fire originated from an unattended cooking gas cylinder that ignited nearby combustible materials.
Chairman of the Fire Service Agency, Hon. Dr. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande, urged residents to prioritize fire safety, especially by keeping functioning fire extinguishers in homes and commercial properties to curb fires at their early stages. The Nigerian Police, Yemetu Division, was also commended for providing effective security cover.
The Agency reminded the public to report fire incidents promptly using its emergency lines: 08067439223, 08054353501, or 615 (toll-free).
