BACK-TO-BACK: Oyo State Fire Services Agency Responds To Two Petrol Tanker Emergencies In Ogbomoso And Ibadan

The Oyo State Fire Services Agency, on Thursday, 27th November 2025, successfully managed two separate petrol tanker emergencies that occurred in Ogbomoso and along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, averting potentially catastrophic explosions.

The first emergency was reported at exactly 06:17hrs through a GSM call from Mr. Adeolu, involving a tanker laden with 45,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) which somersaulted at the Idi Oro area of Ogbomoso. Fire personnel led by PFS II Oluwaleye S. Gbenga swiftly arrived at the scene and immediately blanketed the area with chemical foam compound to prevent ignition. Their prompt response saved property worth millions of naira.

In a similar operation, another distress call was received at 07:00hrs from the DPO, Toll Gate, regarding a tanker with Registration Number KUJ 718 XT (Abuja) which had swerved into a ditch and caught fire at the ARAMED Centre, Lagos–Ibadan Expressway. Firemen led by ACFS Adesina launched a coordinated attack using chemical foam to suppress the blaze and prevent it from spreading to other parts of the vehicle. No casualties were recorded, and normal traffic flow was restored afterward.

The Special Adviser on Fire Services Reform and Chairman of the Agency, Hon. Dr. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande, commended the firefighters for their professionalism. He urged motorists to maintain safety distances around fallen tankers, avoid scooping fuel, and ensure that vehicles and buildings are equipped with functional fire extinguishers. He also emphasized adherence to road and fire safety guidelines to prevent such incidents.

The Agency appreciated the support of the Nigerian Police Force and Amotekun Corps for maintaining safety and security during the operations. Both appliances returned to their respective stations at 15:39hrs and 21:42hrs, remaining on operational standby.
