According to a report by The Nation on Sunday, November 30, 2025, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke faces a dire political crisis ahead of the 2026 governorship election as the national implosion of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) threatens to leave him without a legitimate platform.

The core issue: the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) deadline for party primaries—December 15, 2025—is fast approaching, and the fractured PDP may be unable to legally sign his nomination forms.

The PDP is currently ripped apart by two hostile factions: the Turaki–Makinde group and the Wike–Anyanwu bloc. This conflict recently culminated in a violent confrontation involving tear gas at the party’s Abuja headquarters.

Critical to Adeleke’s ticket, the two principal national officers required to sign nomination papers are now split between these opposing sides, making INEC recognition of any primary result nearly impossible.

Senator Samuel Anyanwu, recognized as the National Secretary by the Wike faction, has publicly vowed not to sign any Osun primary documents.

This stance leaves Adeleke—a sitting governor—in an unprecedented predicament: he must choose a new political home or risk disqualification.

Adeleke is reportedly exploring escape routes, with advanced talks confirmed with the Accord Party and possible conversations with the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

Although he retains strong grassroots popularity, moving to a smaller party is a high-stakes gamble, risking the alienation of PDP loyalists.

Meanwhile, the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) is watching with strategic calm, viewing the PDP’s crisis as a golden opportunity.

The APC is preparing to capitalize on the internal divisions in the PDP’s Osun chapter, particularly in the crucial Ife Federal Constituency, which has been rattled by a recent defection.
