The Oyo State Fire Services Agency has successfully contained two separate fire incidents that occurred consecutively in different parts of Ibadan, preventing extensive damage to lives and property.

The first incident was reported at exactly 11:13 a.m. on Sunday, December 7, 2025, via a telephone call by a resident, Mr. Akintunde. The fire broke out at a private residential bungalow located at No. 4, Ifelajulo Street, Oke-Ayo Junction, Oki Area, off Iyana Church, Ibadan.

Firefighters, led by Assistant Chief Fire Superintendent (ACFS) Adisa Wasiu, were promptly mobilised to the scene. On arrival, they discovered a six-room bungalow already engulfed in flames. The fire was swiftly brought under control, preventing it from spreading to nearby buildings and properties.

No casualties were recorded. Preliminary findings indicated that the inferno was caused by negligence, as occupants reportedly left electrical appliances plugged in while they went to church. Fire officers at the scene educated residents on the importance of switching off and unplugging electrical appliances when not in use and on basic fire prevention measures.

While returning from the first operation, the agency received an emergency priority call at about 12:30 p.m., directing the team to another fire incident at No. 4, Mopaderun Street, opposite Melody FM, Bashorun, Ibadan.

On arrival, the firefighters met a smoke-filled kitchen located on the upper floor of a three-bedroom flat. The fire was quickly extinguished, limiting damage to only a few kitchen items and saving properties worth millions of naira.

No lives were lost in the second incident. Investigations revealed that the fire was caused by an unattended domestic gas cylinder that ignited nearby combustible materials.

The fire appliance returned safely to the station at about 1:10 p.m. and remains on standby.

Commending the officers’ swift and professional response, the Special Adviser on Fire Reform and Chairman, Fire Services Agency, Hon. Dr. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande, urged members of the public to be more conscious of fire safety. He emphasised the importance of installing fire extinguishers in homes, shops, and offices to combat fires at their early stages.

Residents were also advised to promptly report fire incidents and provide accurate addresses through the agency’s emergency lines: 08067439223, 08054353501, or 615 (toll-free).
