A political analyst and legal practitioner, Barrister Darlington Agomuo, has expressed concern over what he described as a weakening political relationship between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and President Bola Tinubu, amid emerging realignments within the ruling party.

Agomuo said the once-perceived solid bond between both leaders appears to be losing strength as controversies surrounding Wike continue to grow and attract public scrutiny. He noted that allegations linked to overseas properties and other unresolved issues have made the minister a political liability that the president may now be cautious to associate with openly.

According to him, the recent defection of Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, to the All Progressives Congress has further altered the political equation in Rivers State.

Agomuo explained that by political tradition, a sitting governor who belongs to a party automatically becomes the highest-ranking political authority of that party within the state. With the governor now in the APC, power structures within the state have shifted significantly, further weakening Wike’s influence and political leverage.

He warned that Wike now finds himself politically isolated, caught between two major parties and fully accepted by neither. Returning to the Peoples Democratic Party, he said, would be difficult, as Wike is perceived to have contributed to the party’s internal crisis and fragmentation.

Agomuo cautioned that relying on presidential backing is politically risky, especially within the ruling party where long-standing members may resist giving Wike a comfortable political space.

He revealed that he had earlier warned Wike against overdependence on the president’s support, stressing that such loyalty could be short-lived.

“I told him, ‘Look, Mr man, forget about the backing you are getting from Tinubu, he will soon drop you,’” Agomuo stated
