The Oyo State Fire Service Agency has successfully extinguished an early morning fire outbreak at Aribisala Street, near UMC Church, Oke-Ado area of Ibadan, preventing the incident from escalating into a major disaster.

The incident was reported at about 4:45 a.m. on Wednesday through a distress telephone call by a resident, identified as Mr. Eze, who alerted authorities to a residential building on fire at the location.

Firefighters led by Assistant Chief Fire Superintendent (ACFS) Oyeniyi Taofeek were promptly deployed to the scene. On arrival, officers discovered that the upper floor of a missionary’s residential building had been engulfed in flames. The fire service swiftly swung into action and successfully curtailed the blaze, preventing it from spreading to the ground floor and adjoining structures.

No casualty was recorded during the incident.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the fire was caused by unattended lighted candles, which ignited nearby combustible materials and set the building ablaze.

Reacting to the incident, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Fire Services Reform and Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service Agency, Hon. Dr. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande, advised residents to exercise caution when using candles. He urged members of the public to always place lighted candles on solid metal plates whenever their use becomes unavoidable.
