The Oyo State Fire Services Agency has successfully contained separate fire outbreaks in Ogbomoso and Ibadan, preventing loss of lives and saving properties worth millions of naira.
In Ogbomoso, a fire incident broke out at a mechanic workshop located in the Agboni area on Saturday, December 20, 2025. The distress call was received at about 2:33 p.m. through concerned residents. Firefighters from the Ogbomoso Zone, led by Assistant Chief Fire Superintendent (ACFS) Mrs. Dairo, promptly mobilised to the scene and discovered the workshop engulfed in flames.

The firemen swiftly swung into action, restricting the inferno from spreading to nearby residential buildings. Although some properties were affected, many valuable items were salvaged. No casualty was recorded. Preliminary investigation revealed that the fire was caused by an unattended ember which ignited combustible materials in the workshop. The fire appliance later returned to the station at about 4:01 p.m. and remained on standby.

In a related development, a similar incident was recorded on Sunday, December 21, 2025, at No. 2, Ebony Street, Oluwakeyin Alia, Airport Area, Ibadan. The fire, which involved a three-bedroom twin private residential building, was reported at exactly 12:23 p.m. Fire personnel led by Chief Fire Superintendent (CFS) Adekola responded swiftly to the emergency.
Upon arrival, the officers worked tirelessly to prevent the fire from spreading to adjoining buildings. The Federal Fire Service, Ibadan Command, later joined efforts, and the fire was successfully extinguished. No life was lost in the incident. Investigations indicated that the fire was caused by electrical appliances left plugged in while not in use. The fire appliance returned to the station by 2:32 p.m. and remained operationally ready.
Confirming the incidents, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Fire Services Reform and Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Hon. Dr. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande, urged residents to be fire-conscious, especially during the dry season. He cautioned against the careless use of naked flames and advised the public to always unplug electrical appliances when not in use.
Dr. Akinwande further emphasised the need for installing portable fire extinguishers in workshops, offices, shops, and households to help control fire outbreaks at the initial stage.
Members of the public are advised to promptly report fire incidents and provide accurate addresses through the agency’s emergency lines: 08067439223, 08054353501, or 615 (toll-free).
