

The Oyo State Fire Services Agency on Monday successfully contained a fire outbreak that affected several shops located beside the Sango Police Divisional Headquarters, Sango, Ibadan.
According to the agency, a distress call was received at its Control Room at exactly 12:43 p.m. on Monday, December 29, 2025, through a telephone call from a resident, Mr. Akanni, reporting a fire outbreak at the location.
Firefighters, led by Assistant Chief Fire Superintendent (ACFS) Bamidele Samsudeen, were immediately mobilised and deployed to the scene. On arrival, eight out of the 84 shops in the complex were found to be engulfed in flames.

The firemen promptly launched a coordinated firefighting operation, successfully containing the blaze and preventing it from spreading to adjoining shops. The operation was carried out in collaboration with officers of the Federal Fire Service, Ibadan Command.
No casualty was recorded in the incident. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, as investigations into the incident are currently ongoing.
The firefighting appliance returned to the station at about 3:06 p.m. and remains on standby.
Meanwhile, the Special Adviser on Fire Reform and Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Hon. Dr. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande, urged members of the public to be fire-conscious at all times. He emphasised the importance of installing fire extinguishers in shops and households to enable prompt response to fire incidents at the early stage.
He also advised residents to promptly report fire outbreaks and provide accurate location details, noting that emergencies can be reported through the agency’s toll-free line 615, or via 08067439223 and 08054353501.
