The Oyo State Fire Services Agency on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, recorded major successes in containing two separate fire incidents in Saki and Ibadan, preventing loss of lives and averting wider destruction of property.
In Saki, operatives of the Agency attached to the Saki Command swiftly responded to a distress call received at exactly 10:48 a.m. from Alhaji Mufutau Badmus, Chairman of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Saki Branch, reporting a fire outbreak at RSK Adebowale Multipurpose Filling Station, Ofiki area.
Firefighters, led by PFS II Kolade Taiwo, immediately mobilised to the scene where a DAF trailer tanker with registration number AAB 943 YL (Abuja), loaded with about 50,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), was discovered engulfed in intense flames alongside the filling station, a Bajaj motorcycle and dispensing pumps.

Through swift, coordinated and professional firefighting techniques, officers successfully curtailed the inferno, preventing a potential large-scale explosion and wider fire spread. No casualty was recorded. However, the fire affected the filling station facility, the tanker, one Bajaj motorcycle and three dispensing pumps. The support of officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ofiki Division, in providing security cover at the scene was commended.
Earlier in the day, the Agency also extinguished a residential fire at No. 48, Road D, Olugbojo, Egbeda area of Ibadan. The distress call was received at 5:42 p.m. from Mr. Eseola, reporting a fire outbreak in a private residence.
Fire personnel led by CFS Adedeji promptly responded and discovered that the visitors’ toilet of a four-bedroom flat was on fire. The blaze was swiftly brought under control, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the building. No casualty was recorded, and only the affected toilet was damaged. Preliminary findings revealed that the fire was caused by unattended cooking materials which ignited combustible items.
Speaking on the incidents, the Special Adviser on Fire Reform and Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Hon. Dr. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande, urged filling station operators and residents across the state to strictly adhere to fire safety guidelines, especially during the dry season. He emphasised the importance of installing and maintaining functional fire extinguishers in commercial premises and homes to curb fire outbreaks at the early stage.
He further advised members of the public to promptly report fire incidents and provide accurate addresses through the Agency’s emergency lines: 08067439223, 08054353501 or the toll-free 615.
