The Oyo State Fire Services Agency recorded a busy operational day on Sunday, January 25, 2026, as its personnel swiftly responded to multiple emergency incidents, including two fire outbreaks and a fatal well rescue operation, across Ibadan and Oyo town.

At about 12:49 p.m., firemen from the Agency’s Headquarters, led by Chief Fire Superintendent (CFS) Adekola, responded to a distress call reporting a shop fire at No. 32, Orita-Merin, Ode-Aje, Ibadan. Upon arrival, officers discovered that one out of three prefabricated shops had been engulfed by fire. The inferno was promptly contained, preventing its spread to adjoining shops and nearby properties.
No casualty was recorded, though one shop was affected, with investigations attributing the cause of the fire to an electrical surge. Properties worth millions of naira were salvaged, after which the Officer-in-Charge delivered a brief lecture on fire prevention, urging residents to promptly contact fire services and provide accurate addresses during emergencies.

Earlier in the day, at about 10:53 a.m., officers from the Molete Zonal Command, led by Assistant Chief Fire Superintendent (ACFS) Bamidele Samsudeen, responded to a distress call at Rain Oil Filling Station, Alakia, Adegbayi, Ibadan, where a 33-year-old man was trapped inside a deep well.
The victim was eventually recovered in a joint rescue operation with the Federal Fire Service, Ibadan Command, but was confirmed dead. The body was subsequently handed over to officers of the Gbagi Police Division. Preliminary findings revealed that the incident resulted from inhalation of ammonia gas while the victim attempted to clean debris inside the abandoned well.

In another incident, the Agency’s Oyo Zonal Command, led by PFS II Makinde, responded to a fire outbreak at Isale Agbala, Sanga Area, Oyo, following a distress call received at 11:56 a.m. The fire, which affected a room within a residential building, was traced to sparks from electrical appliances that ignited nearby combustible materials.
The fire was successfully curtailed from spreading to other parts of the building and surrounding properties, with no casualty recorded. A fire prevention lecture was also delivered to residents by CFS Tijani, as the operation was carried out in collaboration with the Federal Fire Service, Oyo Command.
