The Oyo State Fire Services Agency on Friday night responded to a fire outbreak near the Primary Health Care Centre in Elekuro, Ibadan, successfully containing the incident and preventing further damage.
The fire was reported at about 9:42 p.m. on Friday, December 7, 2026, via a telephone call, alerting emergency responders to a residential building on fire in the area. Firefighters from the agency’s headquarters, led by Assistant Chief Fire Superintendent (ACFS) Bamidele Samsudeen, were immediately mobilised and deployed to the scene.
Upon arrival, officers discovered that the fire had engulfed one room in a six-room boys’ quarters attached to an old residential building. Firefighters swiftly brought the blaze under control, preventing it from spreading to adjoining rooms and the main structure.

A woman estimated to be about 65 years old sustained serious injuries due to excessive smoke inhalation and was promptly taken to the nearest hospital for medical attention.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the fire was caused by electrical sparks from a plugged appliance, which ignited nearby combustible materials and set the room ablaze.
Reacting to the incident, the Special Adviser on Fire Reform and Chairman of the Fire Services Agency, Hon. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande, urged residents to remain vigilant about fire safety. He advised members of the public to unplug electrical appliances when not in use, particularly before going to bed, and stressed the importance of installing fire extinguishers in homes to help control fires at their early stages.
Fire service appliances returned to the station at about 10:58 p.m. and remained on standby for further emergencies. Residents were also encouraged to promptly report fire incidents and provide accurate location details by contacting the agency’s emergency lines: 08067439223, 08054353501, or 615.
