The Oyo State Fire Services Agency on Sunday successfully contained a fire outbreak at the Polytechnic Ibadan feedmill factory behind Academic Affairs Extension and the Mass Communication Department, The Polytechnic Ibadan, preventing what could have escalated into a major disaster.

According to the agency, a distress call was received at approximately 3:54 p.m. reporting a factory fire within the institution’s premises. Firefighters, led by Chief Fire Superintendent (CFS) Adesina, were immediately deployed to the scene.

Upon arrival, officers discovered that a feedmill factory within the department was engulfed in flames. The team swiftly brought the situation under control, successfully curtailing the blaze and preventing it from spreading to adjacent buildings and properties.

No casualties were recorded in the incident. While the fire affected the feedmill factory, officials confirmed that properties valued at millions of naira were salvaged due to the prompt intervention of the firefighters.

Preliminary findings indicate that the fire was triggered by indiscriminate bush and refuse burning, which spread to the factory during the current dry season.

The Chairman of the Agency and Special Adviser to the Governor on Fire Services Reform, Hon. Dr. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande, urged residents of Oyo State to desist from bush and refuse burning, particularly during the dry season, to prevent avoidable fire disasters. He also emphasized the importance of installing fire extinguishers in homes and workplaces and ensuring proper knowledge of their use to manage fire incidents at early stages.
