The Oyo State Fire Services Agency has confirmed a road traffic incident involving a vehicle that caught fire on Tuesday afternoon at Arapaja Bridge in the Kudeti area of Ibadan.

According to the agency, the distress call was received at exactly 3:44 p.m. on March 3, 2026. Firefighters, led by Assistant Chief Fire Superintendent (ACFS) Adeniyi, were immediately deployed to the scene.

Upon arrival, emergency responders discovered that a Lexus Jeep, bearing registration number KSF 297 JF, had reportedly lost control while in motion, somersaulted into a nearby gutter, and subsequently caught fire. Fire officers swiftly contained the blaze, preventing it from spreading to adjacent properties.

Two male victims were recovered from the scene, while one individual was rescued alive. The survivor was handed over to police officers and transported to the nearest hospital for medical attention. Authorities attributed the accident to reckless driving.

The Nigeria Police Force, Mapo Divisional Headquarters, provided security coverage during the rescue and recovery operation, a gesture the fire service described as commendable.

The firefighting crew returned to the station at 5:59 p.m. and resumed operational standby.

In a statement following the incident, the Special Adviser on Fire Reform and Chairman of the Fire Services Agency, Hon. Dr. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande, urged motorists to adhere strictly to road safety regulations. He also emphasized the importance of installing fire extinguishers in vehicles and homes to curb fire outbreaks at their early stages.
