The Oyo State Fire Services Agency successfully responded to three separate emergency incidents across the state between Friday and Saturday, preventing major disasters and saving properties worth millions of naira.

The first incident occurred on Friday, March 6, 2026, when the agency received a distress call at 17:49hrs reporting a fire outbreak at Banbay Specialist Hospital, Block 42, Akobo Estate, Ibadan. The alert was made through a telephone call by Mrs. Oluwaseyi Opakunle.

Firefighters led by Assistant Chief Fire Superintendent (ACFS) Oyeniyi promptly deployed to the scene. On arrival, officers discovered that the control panel system inside the generator house had caught fire due to electrical sparks.

The fire crew quickly contained the blaze, preventing it from spreading to other sections of the hospital building. No casualties were recorded, while properties worth millions of naira were saved through the swift intervention of the fire personnel.

The appliance later returned to the station at 19:28hrs and remained on operational standby. The Federal Fire Service, Ibadan Command, also attended the incident.

In another incident, firefighters responded to a residential fire at Winners Road, Ashi, Ibadan, in the early hours of Saturday, March 7, 2026.

The distress call was received at 01:30hrs through a telephone call from Mr. Ogunrinde, reporting that a house was on fire. Personnel led by Chief Fire Superintendent (CFS) Adekola were immediately dispatched to the location.

Upon arrival, firefighters discovered that an old residential building had already been engulfed by flames. The fire crew acted swiftly to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to nearby buildings and surrounding properties.

Although the affected building suffered significant damage, no casualty was recorded. Preliminary findings revealed that the fire was caused by an unattended cooking gas cylinder which ignited nearby combustibles.

The firefighting team returned safely to the station at 03:41hrs and remained on standby.

Meanwhile, the Ogbomoso Zonal Command of the agency also responded to a trailer accident along the Sekona Ogbomoso–Oyo Road later the same day.

At 15:10hrs on Saturday, the agency received a telephone report from Mr. Haruna about a trailer that had swerved off the road and caught fire.

Fire personnel led by PFS11 Oluwaleye swiftly deployed to the accident scene, where they discovered a trailer loaded with bags of rice already engulfed in flames after veering off the road.

Firefighters immediately extinguished the blaze and prevented further damage. Investigations indicated that the fire was caused by sparks from the trailer’s engine compartment. No casualties were reported.

The firefighting appliance returned safely to the station at 19:47hrs and was placed on operational standby.

Reacting to the incidents, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Fire Services Reform and Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Hon. Dr. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande, urged residents to remain vigilant and adopt preventive safety measures to avoid fire outbreaks.

He emphasized the importance of installing fire extinguishers in homes, commercial premises, and vehicles, particularly trucks and heavy-duty vehicles.
