The Oyo State Fire Services Agency has successfully contained two separate emergency incidents in Oyo and Ibadan, preventing potential disasters and recording no casualties in both cases.
The first incident occurred at approximately 11:27 a.m. on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at Lane 6A, Gbenga Oyekola Scheme, Boroboro area of Oyo town. The agency received a distress call from a resident, Alhaji Adeleke Ismail, reporting a fire outbreak in a private residential building.

Firefighters, led by Fire Officer II Yisau Opeyemi, responded promptly to the scene. Upon arrival, the crew discovered that the last room in a four-bedroom apartment was engulfed in flames. Swift intervention by the fire service ensured that the blaze was contained and prevented from spreading to other parts of the building and nearby properties.

Preliminary findings indicated that the fire was caused by an unattended lit mosquito coil. Officials confirmed that no injuries or fatalities were recorded. A supporting team from the Federal Fire Service, led by DSF Oyebode Oyelakin, was also present at the scene. The operation concluded successfully, with equipment returned to base by 12:13 p.m.
In a separate incident, the agency responded to a petrol tanker accident at about 8:31 p.m. on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, along the Ibadan/Iseyin Expressway near Falas Oil in Ijaye, Ibadan. The alert was raised by Mrs. Rasaki via a running call.
The response team, led by Assistant Chief Fire Superintendent Adeniyi, found a 40,000-litre capacity DAF trailer tanker loaded with Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) that had veered off the road into a nearby ditch due to brake failure.
Firefighters immediately deployed foam chemical compounds to neutralize the risk of ignition, successfully preventing a possible explosion. No casualties were reported in the incident. The operation lasted several hours, with the crew returning safely to the station at 4:29 a.m. on April 1.
Reacting to the incidents, the Special Adviser on Fire Service Reform and Chairman of the agency, Moroof Adebayo Akinwande, urged residents and motorists to prioritize safety at all times. He emphasized the importance of installing functional fire extinguishers in homes and commercial buildings, as well as practicing caution on the roads to prevent avoidable accidents.
He also encouraged the public to promptly report emergencies and provide accurate location details when contacting fire services through the agency’s emergency lines.
