A close ally of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Oladimeji Fabiyi, has advised Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde to retrace his political steps and heed the counsel earlier given to him by Atiku Abubakar, warning that failure to do so could push him into political obscurity.

Fabiyi gave the advice during an interview aired on SYMFONI Television on Sunday, December 28, 2025, while reacting to the deepening crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Makinde’s recent public comments against key figures within the party.

According to Fabiyi, Makinde’s current posture reflects a departure from the principles and guidance that once positioned him for political relevance. He recalled that Atiku had earlier urged PDP governors and stakeholders to prioritise unity, internal discipline, and collective leadership within the opposition rather than personal ambitions.

“My advice to him is that he should go back to what Atiku told him from the beginning,” Fabiyi said, stressing that the former vice president had consistently called for cooperation and strategic leadership among opposition figures.

Fabiyi argued that Makinde’s public airing of private discussions and grievances, particularly those involving the President and senior political actors, amounted to political immaturity and poor judgment. He described such actions as damaging not only to Makinde’s personal credibility but also to the already weakened opposition space.

The ADC stalwart further maintained that the ongoing implosion within the PDP is largely self-inflicted, accusing some governors, including Makinde, of ignoring wise counsel in pursuit of short-term political advantage.

He warned that unless Makinde aligns himself with a broader opposition strategy, as earlier advised by Atiku, he risks being isolated as the political landscape ahead of 2027 continues to evolve.
