Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has reaffirmed his resolve to remain focused on governance and political stability despite the ongoing face-off with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, declaring that his administration understands its direction and will not be distracted by political noise.

The governor made this known on Thursday during the 2026 New Year State Banquet held at the Government House, Port Harcourt, where he urged his supporters to remain calm and confident. Using a metaphor to address the political tension, Fubara said those making loud attacks are acting out of misunderstanding.

“Don’t be disturbed by what is happening,” the governor said. “As Julius Caesar once said, the only reason a dog barks is when it doesn’t understand. “If you have a dog in your house and it knows you, does it need to bark ? So when the dog starts backing maybe it is seeing something it doesn’t understand anymore.

We are not barking because we understand. We know where we are going and we have put everything in place to make the journey smooth.”

Governor Fubara assured Rivers people that his administration remains solid, stressing that the necessary structures are already in place to guarantee effective governance and the success of his re-election bid.

In a move seen as further consolidating his administration, the governor also announced the appointment of five Special Advisers, including two former commissioners who had previously served in his cabinet. The appointments come barely 72 hours after a cabinet reshuffle that saw the former Commissioner for Sports, Christopher Green, redeployed to the Ministry of Justice as Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice.

Meanwhile, prominent political leaders in Rivers State have openly thrown their weight behind Governor Fubara amid the renewed confrontation with his predecessor. Those who declared support include former PDP National Chairman Prince Uche Secondus, former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Rt. Hon. Austin Opara, former Minister of Transportation Alabo Abiye Sekibo, and former Governor Sir Celestine Omehia.

Governor Fubara disclosed that the presence of these influential figures at the banquet was a clear signal of their unwavering support for his administration. He added that the leaders also reaffirmed their backing for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing the show of unity as a strong statement of political stability in the state.

The political tension between Fubara and Wike resurfaced months after President Tinubu brokered a peace deal between both parties. The FCT Minister has since alleged that the governor deviated from the terms of the agreement, insisting that “agreement is agreement,” a position widely interpreted as an attempt to undermine Fubara’s second-term ambition.

Despite the renewed political pressure, Governor Fubara appears undeterred, projecting confidence, consolidating his cabinet, and strengthening alliances as he continues to steer the affairs of Rivers State.
