The leadership of the Coalition of Present and Past Student Leaders for APM (COPPSLA) has held a strategic engagement with the Chairman of the Oyo State Local Government Service Commission, Hon. Bashorun Akinwale Solomon Akinwole, as part of efforts to strengthen its advocacy for responsible leadership, good governance and a better Nigeria.

The meeting, held on Thursday, October 8, 2026, brought together members of the COPPSLA Executive and Board of Trustees (BOT) and provided an avenue for the coalition to formally present its mission, vision and objectives to the Commission chairman.

During the engagement, the COPPSLA leadership highlighted the coalition’s commitment to mobilising present and past student leaders across Oyo State and beyond towards meaningful participation in governance, leadership development and nation-building.

The coalition explained that its activities are not limited to political mobilisation, but are also anchored on the broader objective of encouraging young Nigerians and emerging leaders to become active participants in the quest for accountable, responsive and people-oriented governance.

Responding, Hon. Bashorun Akinwale Solomon Akinwole commended the initiative and welcomed the COPPSLA delegation, while offering what he described as fatherly counsel on leadership, unity, political consciousness and responsible participation in public affairs.

He urged the coalition to remain united, disciplined and focused on its objectives, stressing the importance of developing a generation of leaders capable of understanding the responsibilities that come with political and civic engagement.

Akinwole also suggested that COPPSLA should further project its slogan, “Another Challenge for a Better Nigeria,” around the broader message of “Reset Nigeria,” noting that the concept captures the urgent need for a new national direction, institutional renewal and a collective commitment to rebuilding the country.

The Chairman’s intervention, according to the coalition, further reinforced its conviction that voluntary organisations and youth-led platforms have important roles to play in shaping public discourse and contributing constructive ideas to governance.

The COPPSLA leadership, in response, reiterated its commitment to promoting unity, leadership consciousness and political participation among present and past student leaders, while pledging its support for APM candidates and aspirants across various levels in the forthcoming elections.

The coalition maintained that its involvement in the political process would continue to be driven by the ideals of service, responsible leadership and the pursuit of a governance system capable of responding effectively to the aspirations of Nigerians.

The meeting ended on a note of mutual understanding, with both sides expressing optimism about the prospects of stronger engagement and collaboration in advancing leadership development, civic responsibility and the collective pursuit of a better Nigeria.
