The governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Oyo State, Mogaji Olusegun Agboola, has urged candidates contesting various elective positions on the party’s platform to work collectively towards changing the party’s electoral narrative in the state.
Agboola made the call during a meeting with SDP candidates as part of efforts to strengthen the party’s structures and coordinate its candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections
The meeting, held on Thursday at the SDP secretariat in Aree, Ibadan, was anchored by the state chairman of the party, Hon. Michael Okunlola.
The meeting brought together the governorship, senatorial, House of Representatives and House of Assembly candidates of the party to deliberate on strategies for effective collaboration and mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections.
Addressing the candidates, Agboola urged them to remain committed to their respective ambitions and intensify efforts towards securing victory for the party.
He specifically cautioned the candidates against entertaining any expectation of stepping down for candidates of other political parties ahead of the election.
He charged the candidates to see their respective contests as part of a broader effort to reposition the SDP and present a coherent political alternative to voters across Oyo State.
According to him, the party must move beyond merely participating in elections and build a stronger organisational structure capable of connecting with voters at the grassroots
Agboola said the SDP candidates must work collectively to change the narrative that the party routinely withdraws from the electoral contest in Oyo State at the eve of elections.
According to him, the party’s candidates should approach the 2027 election with determination and the conviction that they can win their respective contests.
He called for greater unity, cooperation and coordinated campaign efforts among the candidates, stressing that the collective objective should be to strengthen the SDP across the state and position it for electoral victory.
Also speaking, the SDP chairman in Oyo State, Hon. Michael Okunlola, commended the candidates for their commitment and resilience.
Okunlola urged them to intensify their grassroots campaigns and engagement with voters across their respective constituencies.
He assured the candidates that the party would remain committed to their aspirations and would not allow any of them to be pressured into stepping down for candidates of other parties or political interests.
The chairman called for unity among the candidates and urged them to sustain their mobilisation efforts as the party prepares for the 2027 general elections.
