…….. No Casualty Recorded As Firefighters Prevent Blaze From Spreading At Bodija International Market

The Oyo State Fire Services Agency has contained a fire outbreak at Block D, popularly known as Isho Ewa, at Bodija International Market, Ibadan, with 15 shops affected and no casualty recorded.

The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Monday, October 19, 2026, was reported at about 4:34 a.m. through a telephone call from one SFS Lawal, who alerted the agency to the fire outbreak at the market.

A firefighting team led by Assistant Chief Fire Superintendent (ACFS) Bamidele promptly mobilised to the scene, where it discovered that 15 of the 44 shops in a row had been engulfed by flames, with thick smoke billowing from the affected premises.

The firefighters immediately commenced operations and successfully brought the fire under control, preventing it from spreading beyond the area where it was first encountered.

The agency said the prompt intervention helped contain the blaze, while no casualty was recorded during the incident.

Preliminary findings attributed the outbreak to a suspected electrical surge arising from faulty wiring.

The firefighting appliance returned safely to the station at 6:40 a.m. after the operation.

Reacting to the incident, the Special Adviser on Fire Services Reform and Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Hon. Dr. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande, urged members of the public to remain vigilant and adopt preventive measures against fire outbreaks.
