
Ambassador AbdulRahman Raheem, Director of the Afrika Future Drive Initiative, a nonprofit organization committed to advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and an undergraduate student at the University of Ilorin, Kwara State, has extended his heartfelt congratulations to Hon. Mariam Nnafatima Imam, the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on SDGs to the Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman Abdulrazaq, for the resounding success of the maiden Kwara SDGs Convention. The convention, which marked a significant milestone in the state’s journey towards sustainable development, was held at the prestigious E-Phoenix Hotel, Ilorin, on Thursday 22nd, August, 2024, brought together key stakeholders from various sectors to discuss and strategize on the implementation of the SDGs in Kwara State.

In his congratulatory message, Ambassador AbdulRahman Raheem lauded the initiative and vision of Hon. Mariam Nnafatima Imam in organizing such a groundbreaking event. He highlighted the importance of the convention in fostering a collaborative approach to addressing the state’s developmental challenges and aligning them with the global SDGs framework.

“The successful inauguration of the First Kwara SDGs Convention is a testament to the unwavering commitment of the Kwara State Government under the leadership of His Excellency, Governor AbdulRahman Abdulrazaq, and the strategic direction provided by Hon. Mariam Nnafatima Imam. This convention represents a significant step towards the realization of the Sustainable Development Goals in Kwara State, particularly in the areas of decent work, economic growth, quality education, and environmental sustainability,” said Ambassador AbdulRahman Raheem.

The Kwara SDGs Convention featured a series of lectures, panel discussions, and interactive sessions that focused on critical issues such as digital innovation, agriculture, entrepreneurship, and waste management. The event brought together government officials, civil servants, SDG advocates, representatives from international organizations, and experts in various fields, all of whom contributed to the rich discourse on sustainable development in the state.
Ambassador AbdulRahman Raheem expressed his admiration for the leadership and foresight of Hon. Mariam Nnafatima Imam in convening such a diverse group of stakeholders to discuss the future of Kwara State. This aspect of the convention resonated deeply with Ambassador Raheem, who has been an advocate for lifelong learning and continuous professional development.
He further noted that the success of the Kwara SDGs Convention is a model for other states in Nigeria and beyond to emulate. “The Kwara SDGs Convention has set a precedent for how state governments can take ownership of the SDGs and drive sustainable development at the grassroots level. It is a shining example of how leadership, innovation, and collaboration can come together to create a better future for all,” he said.
