OYO GOVT OPENS PHASE ONE OF OLODO BRIDGE

Oyo State Government has declared open a phase of the Olodo bridge for public use by Pedestrians.

The State Commissioner for Public works and Transport, Prof. Daud Shangodoyin during his inspection tour of the bridge on Tuesday, said the state governor Engr Seyi Makinde directed that the bridge should be opened for the Pedestrians to ease their movement.

According to Prof. Shangodoyin, the move to open the bridge for the Pedestrians was in line with the promise made by the state Governor Makinde that people of the state would have access to pass through the bridge by 30th April 2023.

The Commissioner, who hinted that a lane of the bridge which is 40m in length and 12m in breadth can accommodate three vehicles at ago, expressed assurance that a lane would be fully completed and declared open for motorists on 22nd of May 2024 by the governor.

Prof. Shangodoyin however appealed to the residents of the area to be patient, careful, and maintain their cooperation with the state government.

Some of the Pedestrians who spoke with newsmen, expressed delight on the level of work done so far by the state government, saying that the new feat achieved has really ameliorated their sufferings.

They however charged the contractor to speed up the reconstruction of the Olodo bridge.

Recall that the Bridge collapsed on July 23, 2023 after a heavy rainfall and since then it has subjected the people of the area to untold hardships.
