Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s whereabouts remained unknown on Tuesday night as over ten military trucks containing military personnel moved into the Rivers State Government House in Port Harcourt.

The deployment happened on the first night of the state of emergency declared by President Bola Tinubu.

The emergency rule followed attacks on oil installations in the state.

Some militant groups had earlier warned of possible destruction if the Rivers State House of Assembly proceeded with Fubara’s impeachment.

In response, Tinubu suspended both the governor and the lawmakers for six months and appointed an administrator to take charge of the state.

Soon after, military trucks and armoured vehicles were seen around Government House, blocking key roads leading to the area.

Residents hurried home, avoiding possible danger as security forces took positions.

A resident who witnessed the military movement described the roads as empty, saying that military trucks and armored tanks were stationed at different points around Government House.

As of press time, it was unclear whether Fubara had left Government House.

However, sources said he had spent most of the day in meetings with his suspended cabinet members.

A former commissioner, who was part of the discussions, declined to provide details, saying he was still in a meeting with the governor.
