In a resounding show of gratitude and admiration, the Chairman of Lagelu Local Government, Hon. Kamorudeen Mudashiru, has showered encomiums on Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, for his pivotal role in ensuring the seamless and rancor-free execution of the 2025 Southwest Zonal Congress of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The congress, held on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at the Emeritus Theophilus Ogunlesi Hall, opposite the University College Hospital in Ibadan, has been hailed as a masterclass in democratic practice, setting a new benchmark for party unity and organization in Nigeria.

Hon. Kamorudeen, a staunch PDP chieftain and grassroots mobilizer, described Governor Makinde as a “visionary leader and unifier” whose strategic foresight and commitment to party cohesion transformed what could have been a contentious electoral process into a “celebration of unity and progress.” In a new release by his office on Thursday, the Lagelu chairman emphasized that Makinde’s leadership was instrumental in fostering an atmosphere of peace and inclusivity, which allowed delegates from Oyo, Osun, Ogun, Ondo, Ekiti, and Lagos states to elect their zonal executives without discord.

“This congress was not just an election; it was a testament to Governor Makinde’s exceptional ability to unite diverse interests for a common goal,” Hon. Kamorudeen stated. “Four years ago, the Southwest PDP was fraught with division, but today, under the governor’s stewardship, we have witnessed a congress that was free, fair, and devoid of rancor. This is democracy at its finest, and we owe it to the leadership of our governor, who has shown that unity is our greatest asset.”

Hon. Kamorudeen echoed this sentiment, praising Governor Makinde for his ability to galvanize party leaders across the Southwest, including Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, Ogun State’s 2023 gubernatorial candidate Ladi Adebutu, and Lagos PDP stalwart Chief Olabode George. The Lagelu chairman highlighted the presence of these prominent figures as evidence of Makinde’s influence and the renewed unity within the party. “Governor Makinde has brought us together as one family, and this congress is a stepping stone to greater victories for the PDP in the Southwest and beyond,” he said.
