As Nigeria commemorates Democracy Day, the Executive Chairman of Egbeda Local Government, Hon. Sikiru Oyedele Sanda, has called on residents to remain steadfast in their commitment to grassroots democracy, describing it as the bedrock of a sustainable and inclusive democratic future.
In his Democracy Day message, Hon. Sanda congratulated the people of Egbeda and Nigerians at large for their enduring faith in democratic governance, acknowledging the resilience that has sustained the nation’s democratic journey despite various challenges.
“Today, we are not just celebrating the return to civilian rule, we are celebrating the will of the people and the strength of participatory governance,” he stated.
He emphasized the importance of active civic engagement, peacebuilding, and accountability, noting that true democracy must be nurtured at the local level where governance directly impacts the people.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance and transparency, Hon. Sanda highlighted the developmental strides achieved under the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde, driven by democratic values and people-focused policies.
He concluded by urging residents to honor the sacrifices of Nigeria’s democratic heroes by continuing to promote peace, unity, and active citizenship.
