Officers of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Iseyin Command, on Tuesday night rescued a 45-year-old man who attempted to commit suicide by climbing a live electric streetlight pole at Oja-Illa area, Iseyin.
The distress call was received at exactly 9:34 p.m. on November 11, 2025, through a running caller and one Mr. Quadir Adedokun, who reported that a man had been trapped on the electric pole.
According to the Agency, its operatives, led by Assistant Chief Fire Superintendent (ACFS) Azeez Muritala, promptly responded and deployed rescue equipment to the scene. Upon arrival, the officers found the man clinging to the live electric pole and immediately commenced a rescue operation.
The team successfully brought the man down alive and handed him over to the Personal Assistant to the Chairman of Iseyin Local Government for further care and investigation.
In his reaction, the Special Adviser on Fire Reform and Chairman, Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Hon. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande, commended the swift response of the firefighters. He also cautioned members of the public against suicide attempts, describing the act as both morally wrong and a criminal offence under Nigerian law.
He further urged residents to promptly report fire or rescue emergencies, providing accurate addresses when doing so.

The rescue operation concluded successfully, with the fire service appliance returning to the station by 10:02 p.m., ready for standby.
