

The Oyo State Fire Services Agency has confirmed the containment of a fire outbreak that engulfed a private residential building at Papa Okella Badmus Close, Oki, Olodo area of Ibadan.
According to the agency, the distress call was received at exactly 2:56 p.m. on Saturday, May 23, 2026, through a telephone report made by a resident identified as Mr. Akeem.

Following the alert, firefighters led by Chief Fire Superintendent (CFS) Adesina swiftly mobilised to the scene of the incident.


On arrival, the firemen discovered that a six-room private residential building had been completely engulfed in flames accompanied by thick smoke.
The firefighting team immediately launched a coordinated operation which successfully curtailed the spread of the inferno to nearby buildings and other valuable properties within the area.
The agency disclosed that no casualty was recorded during the incident.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the fire outbreak was caused by unattended domestic gas.
The fire service further stated that the firefighting crew returned safely to the station at about 5:13 p.m. and remained on standby for further emergency response.
Meanwhile, the Special Adviser on Fire Service Reform and Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Hon. Dr. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande, urged residents to exercise caution while using domestic gas appliances in their homes.
He also stressed the importance of installing functional fire extinguishers in residential and commercial buildings to help combat fire outbreaks at the early stage.
