As conversations about the next governorship election in Oyo State continue to gain momentum, it has become increasingly important for the people to critically evaluate every aspirant based on competence, capacity, integrity, and measurable performance, not emotions, propaganda, or political sentiments.

Democracy thrives when citizens ask tough but fair questions. Every individual aspiring to lead a state as strategic as Oyo must be prepared to account for their stewardship in previous public offices.

One of such aspirants is Barrister Sarafadeen Abiodun Alli, who currently represents Oyo South Senatorial District in the Senate. Before entrusting anyone with the enormous responsibility of governing Oyo State, it is only reasonable to assess what has been achieved in the office presently occupied.

The governorship of Oyo State is not an entry level political office. It requires proven administrative competence, visionary leadership, and a demonstrable record of delivering tangible results.

The question many citizens continue to ask is simple, What significant impact has Senator Sarafadeen Abiodun Alli made in Oyo South that qualifies him for the higher responsibility of governing the entire state?

Public office is a trust. Citizens deserve evidence of effective representation through quality legislation, constituency development, empowerment initiatives, infrastructure advocacy, youth development, educational interventions, and consistent engagement with the people.

Political ambition should naturally be built upon visible achievements. When performance is difficult for the electorate to identify, it becomes legitimate for voters to question whether the next level of leadership is deserved.

Another issue that has generated public discussion is the growing culture of making public donation or empowerment announcements that are not immediately fulfilled.

While there is nothing wrong with making charitable donations or supporting constituents, leaders should understand that credibility is one of the greatest assets in public service.

“Give what you genuinely have. Do not promise what you cannot immediately deliver.”

People would rather receive modest but fulfilled assistance than hear grand announcements that eventually fail to materialize.

Leadership is measured not by the size of promises but by the consistency of delivery.

When public expectations are repeatedly raised without corresponding results, confidence begins to decline.

Oyo people deserve leaders whose words match their actions.

They deserve leaders whose commitments are backed by implementation rather than explanations.

The governor of Oyo State oversees billions of naira in public resources, supervises numerous ministries and agencies, drives economic development, ensures security, improves healthcare and education, and coordinates infrastructure across thirty three local government areas.

This enormous responsibility cannot rest solely on political popularity or long standing ambition, It requires a convincing record of performance.

The electorate must therefore ask:

  • What measurable achievements have been recorded in the Senate?
  • How has Oyo South benefited from the current representation?
  • What innovative policies have been championed?
  • What lasting developmental projects can be pointed to with confidence?

These are not personal attacks, they are legitimate democratic questions.

Politics should never be reduced to entitlement. No individual automatically deserves promotion simply because they currently occupy another elective office.

Every new mandate must be earned through performance, accountability, and public confidence.

As the next election approaches, citizens should vote based on facts, competence, and proven leadership, not merely on political slogans or declarations of ambition.

The future of Oyo State is too important to be entrusted to aspirations unsupported by convincing performance.
