The stage is set for a keen contest among over 600 students who will compete for the position of One Day Chairman in Ibadan South West Local Government.
The Executive Chairman of Ibadan South West Local Government, Honourable Kehinde Akande, has announced that an assessment test will be conducted to select the student who will serve as One Day Chairman.
The assessment test is scheduled to hold on Monday, 7th September 2026 at UMC, Molete by 9am.
Hon. Akande said the initiative is part of efforts to promote leadership, civic responsibility and active participation of young people in governance at the grassroots level.
According to him, the One Day Chairman program will give students firsthand experience of how local government administration works and will also serve as a platform to identify bright and promising young leaders.
He noted that the selection process will be transparent and based strictly on merit, as the assessment test will determine the overall winner who will assume office for one day.
The Chairman further stated that the One Day Chairman contest has been running concurrently with the administration’s holiday coaching program since 2024.
Under the Akande Administration, students have continued to benefit from free teaching, free books and co-curricular activities all made available by the local government to support learning and personal development during school breaks.
“This administration remains committed to investing in our children. Beyond the One Day Chairman experience, we have sustained free holiday coaching with teaching materials and activities so that no child is left behind,” Hon. Akande said.
The Chairman urged all registered participants, parents, guardians and school authorities to ensure that candidates arrive early at the venue for proper accreditation.
The One Day Chairman initiative has become one of the flagship youth engagement programs of the Ibadan South West administration under Hon. Kehinde Akande.
