Akande Charges Field Officers As Ibadan South West LG, NPC Commence Baby Census

The Ibadan South West Local Government under the leadership of Hon. Kehinde Akande has partnered with the National Population Commission, NPC, on the ongoing census and registration of newborns and young babies across the local government area.

The exercise, which is aimed at ensuring proper documentation and planning, is being carried out across wards and communities within the local government.

Speaking on the programme, the Registrar of the National Population Commission, Mr. Kayode Oyetunde Akeem, said the programme is necessary to ensure every child is captured in the national database for effective planning and development.

According to him, the registration of births is not only a legal requirement but also crucial for government at all levels to plan for healthcare, education and other social amenities for children. He urged parents and guardians in Ibadan South West to present their children for registration and to cooperate with officials of the commission.

Also speaking, the Controller of NPC for Ibadan South West Local Government, Mrs. Okin Olubusayo, appreciated the Chairman of Ibadan South West Local Government for his support and collaboration. She noted that the partnership with the council has made the exercise seamless and will ensure wider coverage.

She called on traditional rulers, religious leaders and community development associations to mobilize residents to participate in the exercise.

In her remarks, the ALGON Focal Person for the programme, Mrs. Fatukasi Sekinat, noted that she is ready to ensure that the registration and documentation is done appropriately across all wards in the local government.

She assured that the local government is committed to ensuring that no child is left out in the documentation process, adding that the data generated will help in grassroots development.

In his remarks, the Chairman of Ibadan South West Local Government, Honourable Kehinde Akande charged the volunteers and field officers to take the task to the various communities as allocated and to work effectively and diligently.

The Chairman emphasized that the success of the exercise depends on their commitment at the grassroots, urging them to ensure that every household with newborns and young children is reached. He noted that his administration will continue to support initiatives that promote proper planning and improved welfare for residents of the local government.

The exercise continues across primary health centres, churches, mosques, markets and designated registration points in Ibadan South West Local Government.
