The Coalition of Present and Past Student Leaders for APM (COPPSLA), Nigeria, has called on eligible Nigerians, particularly students, youths and first-time voters, to take proactive steps towards participating in the country’s democratic process by ensuring that they complete their voter registration and obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in accordance with the guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The coalition described voter registration and PVC collection as essential aspects of civic responsibility, stressing that meaningful participation in democracy begins with citizens taking deliberate steps to exercise their constitutional right to vote.

In a statement issued as part of its voter awareness and civic mobilisation campaign, COPPSLA emphasised the need for Nigerians across Oyo State and the federation to take the electoral process seriously and avoid waiting until the last minute before addressing their voter registration needs.

According to the coalition, young people, students, artisans, professionals, traders and other eligible citizens must recognise their roles in shaping the future of the country through informed participation in elections and other democratic processes.
COPPSLA noted that the PVC provides eligible citizens with the means to participate in elections, adding that citizens who desire meaningful change in governance must be prepared to engage constructively in the democratic process.
“Our democracy becomes more inclusive when eligible citizens take responsibility for participating in the electoral process. We therefore urge every eligible Nigerian, especially students and youths, to take PVC collection seriously. Do not wait until the last minute.” the coalition stated.
COPPSLA further stressed that civic participation must go beyond social media conversations and expressions of dissatisfaction with the state of the nation. It maintained that citizens should complement their demands for accountable leadership with lawful, peaceful and informed participation in democratic institutions.
The coalition also called on student unions, youth organisations, community leaders, civil society groups and other stakeholders to support non-partisan voter education initiatives capable of improving public awareness and encouraging eligible citizens to participate in elections.
Reaffirming its commitment to youth development, responsible leadership and good governance, COPPSLA said it would continue to encourage civic consciousness and democratic participation among Nigerians, particularly the younger generation, whose involvement remains important to the country’s democratic future.
The coalition urged Nigerians to make informed choices at the polls, respect the rights of fellow citizens and uphold peace, tolerance and the rule of law throughout the electoral process.
COPPSLA’s message is clear: your voice matters, your participation counts, and your civic responsibility begins with taking the necessary steps to exercise your right to vote.
GET INFORMED. GET REGISTERED. COLLECT YOUR PVC. PARTICIPATE IN DEMOCRACY.
