The Coalition of Present and Past Student Leaders for APM (COPPSLA) has congratulated Bashorun Akinwale Akinwole, popularly known as Wolekanle, on his appointment as Chief of Staff to the Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, describing the development as a recognition of political experience, loyalty and administrative competence.
In a congratulatory statement issued by its secretariat, the coalition commended Governor Makinde for the appointment, expressing confidence that Wolekanle’s political experience, grassroots connections and leadership capacity would contribute meaningfully to the effective coordination of government business and the advancement of the Omituntun Agenda.
COPPSLA described the new Chief of Staff as a progressive political figure whose relationship with stakeholders across different generations has continued to distinguish his leadership, particularly in grassroots engagement and political mobilisation.
According to the coalition, his appointment represents an opportunity to strengthen the link between the state government and the people while consolidating the administration’s development priorities.
“Bashorun Wolekanle represents the true spirit of progressive leadership. His appointment as Chief of Staff is a round peg in a round hole. We are confident that he will bring his wealth of experience, administrative competence and people-oriented approach to bear in supporting the success of Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration,” the statement said.
The coalition further noted that the office of the Chief of Staff occupies a strategic position in government, particularly in coordinating administrative priorities, facilitating communication and ensuring effective engagement among key stakeholders.
It expressed optimism that Wolekanle would deploy his political sagacity and institutional experience to support the governor’s vision for sustainable development, inclusive governance and improved service delivery across Oyo State.
Reaffirming its commitment to leadership development and good governance, COPPSLA said the appointment resonates with its guiding philosophy, “Another Challenge for a Better Nigeria — Reset Nigeria.”
The coalition maintained that leadership must be measured not merely by political position but by the capacity to serve the people, listen to their concerns and translate public expectations into tangible outcomes.
It also urged the new Chief of Staff to see his appointment as a call to greater responsibility, constructive engagement and dedicated service to the people of Oyo State.
COPPSLA prayed for divine wisdom, strength, sound health and a successful tenure for Wolekanle in his new assignment, while reiterating its support for Governor Makinde’s administration and its development agenda.
