Lagelu, Ibadan
Ushering in the new year with a beacon of hope and community warmth, the Chairperson of Lagelu Local Government, Mrs. Taiwo Abibat Mudashiru visited Monatan Health Center to pay homage to the area’s first two babies born in 2026, presenting them with symbolic names, gifts, and support for their families.
The celebrations centered on a baby boy, delivered exactly at midnight on January 1, who became the inaugural newborn of the year for Lagelu. Following closely, a baby girl arrived at 3:00 AM, both at the bustling Monatan Health Center, a key facility for maternal care in the region. These timely births not only marked the dawn of 2026 but also highlighted the center’s role in ensuring safe deliveries amid growing community needs.

In a personal and culturally resonant gesture, the Chairperson named the baby boy Ademiposi, evoking the Yoruba meaning “my crown increases,” and the baby girl Adesewa, translating to “the crown brings beauty.” The infants received an assortment of gifts, including baby clothes, blankets, and care kits, while their mothers were awarded cash gifts along with essential household items to aid in the early stages of childcare.
“These children are a symbol of renewal and prosperity for our local government,” the Chairperson stated during the visit. “By honoring them, we reaffirm our commitment to nurturing families and building a stronger Lagelu for generations to come.”
The mothers, overcome with emotion, shared their joy at the unexpected recognition. “It’s a dream come true to have the Chairperson name my son and provide such generous support,” said the mother of Ademiposi. The mother of Adesewa echoed similar sentiments: “This gesture means the world to us; it shows our community truly cares.”
Attendees, including health workers and local dignitaries, applauded the initiative, noting its potential to inspire greater focus on maternal health services. Monatan Health Center, which has been instrumental in reducing infant mortality rates in the area, served as the perfect backdrop for this uplifting event. This tribute aligns with broader efforts by the Lagelu administration to promote family welfare, with officials hinting at expanded programs for newborn support throughout the year.
