The Oyo State Fire Services Agency has successfully contained two separate fire incidents in Oyo town and Ibadan, preventing extensive damage to properties and adjoining structures.
The first incident occurred at about 10:04 p.m. on Saturday, January 10, 2026, beside Alabebe Food Canteen, Akesan Market, Oyo, following a distress call by Mr. Nurudeen Olayiwola. Firefighters from the Oyo Zonal Command, led by PFS II Makinde, were promptly deployed to the scene.
On arrival, the team met an ancient seven-room residential building fully engulfed in flames. The fire personnel swiftly swung into action, successfully subduing the blaze and preventing it from spreading to adjoining shops located in front of the building. Preliminary investigation suggested that the fire was caused by negligent use of mosquito coils in one of the rooms. Properties worth millions of naira were saved. A crew of the Federal Fire Service and operatives of Amotekun Corps, Atiba Division, were also in attendance. The firefighting appliance returned to the station at 12:11 a.m. on Sunday.

Barely hours later, another distress call was received at 9:07 a.m. on Sunday, January 11, 2026, reporting a fire outbreak at Ilaji Farm and Resort, Akanran, Ibadan. Firefighters, led by CFS Adedeji (Mrs.), promptly mobilized to the scene.
Upon arrival, a three-bedroom flat being used as a lounge was found engulfed in flames. The fire was swiftly attacked and contained, preventing it from spreading to surrounding buildings and properties. The incident was jointly handled by the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, the Federal Fire Service, and staff of the resort. No casualty was recorded. Investigation revealed that the fire was caused by an electrical appliance left plugged and unattended, which ignited nearby combustible materials.
Reacting to the incidents, the Special Adviser on Fire Reform and Chairman, Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Hon. Dr. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande, urged residents and business owners to be vigilant, especially during the dry season. He emphasized the importance of installing and maintaining fire extinguishers in homes, shops, and public facilities, and encouraged the public to promptly contact fire services in the event of emergencies.
The firefighting appliance from the Ilaji incident returned to the station at 12:09 p.m. and remains on operational standby.
Residents are advised to report fire emergencies promptly and provide accurate locations via the agency’s emergency lines: 08067439223, 08054353501, or 615 (toll-free).
