The Executive Chairman of Ibadan South West Local Government, Hon. Kehinde Akande, on Monday conducted an aptitude test for over 600 students to select a One-Day Chairman for the council.
The program, held at the UMC in Molete, drew suidents from public and private primary and secondary schools across Ibadan South West. Students were tested on subjects including governance, current affairs, mathematics, English and civic education.
This marks the third consecutive year that Hon. Akande has sponsored the initiative aimed at promoting leadership, academic excellence and civic responsibility among young people.
Hon. Akande said the program is designed to give students practical exposure to governance and to inspire them to take interest in public service early.
“We have made this an annual tradition because we believe in our children. This is the third time in a row that we are sponsoring this lofty programme to add value to the lives of young minds in Ibadan South West,” Akande said.
“Leadership is not about age. Today, one of you will sit in this chair and see how decisions that affect our people are made.”
Officials of the Local Government Education Authority, school principals, teachers and parents were present. The atmosphere was competitive yet engaging as students gave answers and shared ideas on community development.
At the end of the exercise, the highest scoring student will serve as One-Day Chairman. The student will shadow the chairman, attend official meetings and participate in council activities for the day. Other top performers will also receive awards and educational support.
Stakeholders commended the chairman for sustaining the program, noting that it is building confidence and leadership skills among students in the local government.
The council said the name of the One-Day Chairman will be announced after final collation of results.
